Made from 100% recycled materials, Katrin Wiehle's, My Little Forest series published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt books is a series that is not only crisply illustrated with shades of greens, browns, grays, and blues, with pops of reds, yellows, and oranges, but is also beautifully constructed. While many board books have a glossy sheen to them, Wiehle's series feels like a combination of textured cardboard and homemade paper.
Full of animals and plants to identify, Wiehle's series is one that encourages children to look closely at nature and its many inhabitants. My only complaint is that the types of mushrooms in My Little Forest aren't identified which seems out of place considering that most everything else in the series is identified.
An environmentally friendly approach to constructing board books, I'm looking forward to seeing what else HMH has in store for future board book releases.
